[Knock on door]
Lucky: Are you expecting someone?
Sam: No.
Elizabeth: Sam, it’s Elizabeth. Are you home?

Sam: Just a minute. I’ll be right there, Elizabeth. What is she doing?
Lucky: I don’t know, but I guess we’re about to find out.
Sam: You have to get out of sight.
Lucky: Listen, just don’t let anything slip about the counterfeit drug raid –
Sam: I know. Go!
Lucky: I don’t want Elizabeth involved.
Sam: I know. Hold on.
Elizabeth: Hey, hi.
Sam: Oh, hi. Come on in.
Elizabeth: Did I wake you?
Sam: No, no, not at all.
Elizabeth: I know I should have called first. I do have an excuse, if you want to hear it.
Sam: Oh, okay.
Elizabeth: I followed an impulse, and you can tell me to shut up if you think it’s none of my business.
Sam: Oh, now I’m really curious.
Elizabeth: Okay, well, I’m sure you know that Lulu has disappeared, and whether she’s really a hostage or just following the man she loves, I couldn’t say, but either way, Lucky is terrified for his sister. And since the two of you aren’t together anymore, he doesn’t have anybody to help him, you know, with his fear, so I was hoping that maybe I could convince you to be that person again.

Sam: I am not really sure what to say. I never really expected you to be encouraging me back to Lucky.
Elizabeth: Yeah, well, I’m a little surprised myself, but in my eyes, the breakup wasn’t really fair, because no Matter what you thought, you saw that day, Lucky and I are not romantically involved. We’re parents together, and that’s it.
Sam: Yeah, well, maybe that’s what you think, and that’s probably what Lucky inks, too, but I am an invested observer, and I can clearly see that the two of you are connected on a deeper level. I — I’m in — I’m in actually no rush to get my heart handed back to me again. I — I’m not really good. I think the whole town really knows what a bad reaction I have, and I really don’t want to put myself through that again.
Elizabeth: I can understand wanting to protect your heart, but sometimes it’s just not necessary. Sometimes, you can find a guy who will recognize your heart as the precious gift it is and honor and respect it, a guy like Lucky.
Sam: Wow, you haven’t always felt that way.
Elizabeth: Well, Lucky and I have had our problems, but we’ve both learned from them. But just don’t give up on him. That’s all I came here to say.
Sam: Thank you.
Elizabeth: Sure.
Sam: You know, it’s weird. Now that I’m getting to know Elizabeth a little bit, I’m actually finding ways to respect her, like the way she genuinely cares about you.
